Still Framed? 

 The watercolours by JMW Turner identified in John Scarlett Davis painting of the BG Windus collection are now located in galleries around the world, as the listing below shows.  When Gerry Alabone, then Head of Frames conservation at the Tate, mused about finding one of the paintings which was still in its original frame he set a challenge which has almost been completed. 

​That the search is almost over without locating such a frame is a disappointment (Alexis at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute is going to make one final check with the chief registrar to look at the frame in which the painting arrived at the gallery) however the kindness and encouragement given by everyone on the way has been immensely cheering.
